Wet And Windy Spurn....

Another visit today to this superb area saw a quieter day than on my last visit, but i still managed some decent sightings along with birding mates Tim and John.
Arriving just as it got light,Tim and myself decided to walk up to the wetlands taking in Beacon ponds and then towards Sammy's before the rain hit.
Very little was seen up to Beacon Ponds apart from 3 Song Thrush,a Chiffchaff and a handful of Blackbirds. On the ponds itself 135 Dark bellied Brents and a similar number of Wigeon were watched feeding and loafing.Very few birds were noted over land on the move,no doubt due to the strong southerly wind.
We then walked down Easington road watching a farmer tilling his field which in turn was attracting a few gulls and we managed at least 6 Med Gulls, which included 2 adults,2 1st calendar years and 2 2nd calendar year birds.A few Golden Plover were noted along with a mixed flock of Lapwings and Starlings and several flocks of Tree Sparrows were noted in the hedgerows along with a few flocks heading towards Spurn. The only notable mammal sighting was seen along here,a herd of 10 Roe Deer watched resting on the fields towards Sammy's.
2nd winter Med. Gull.

Adult Med. Gull.

Roe Deer,Long Bank.

Storm front over the sea.

The best bird of the day was seen a little further along the road, when Tim spotted a small bird moving in a nearby hedgerow and i managed to get on it before it disappeared...a Yellow-browed Warbler. The bird soon vanished as quick as it had appeared along with the Tit flock it was associating with,a nice bonus, just a shame it didn't show better.
We headed down Peter Lane in the direction of Sammy's Point when it began to rain, buggar, but just by chance John appeared with a life saving lift back to the Bluebell.
With an aborted attempt at getting a breakfast in Sandy Beaches,an amazing cloud formation as the approaching weather front passed over, saw us getting distracted briefly as we took some photos,a Merlin flew past along the beach as if to try and get out of the weather.just before the heavens opened again and we got a proper soaking this time. But we more than made up for it with tea and cake in the Bluebell, very nice it was too!.
With the weather getting worse our day was cut short unfortunately after a brief look on Canal Scrape and we all headed home.
Another decent visit albeit it being cut short, but there's always next weekend.
